Sight-Reading Trainer

Browser-based music notation practice

Mar 15, 2025

A browser-based app for learning to sight-read music notation across treble, bass, and grand staff. It adapts to focus on the notes you struggle with most.

Try it live GitHub

Notes appear on the staff and you identify them. The app tracks your accuracy per note — ones you miss appear 2-4x more often. Score 85%+ on your last 10 attempts to unlock the next level.

You can plug in a MIDI keyboard for exact pitch matching, or use your microphone — the app does real-time pitch detection so you can practice with your actual guitar or piano instead of clicking buttons. In guitar mode, tab hints show you exactly where to fret each note.

Built with vanilla JS + VexFlow 5. No frameworks, no build step, zero dependencies.
